I Need Your Help

I know that it's going to be hard to make a documentary on my school. I'm going to need descent technology with me at all times to make a descent video. But outside of what I physically need I'm going to ask you all for ideas, the most important thing that I will need. I think the best way to start this project is to get advice from people so that I can make this project the best that it can be. I know what I want to include, such as the dorm life, what boys and girl go through each day, the teachers, sports, and a few interviews. But I want to do more than that and I want to know what you guys think is important to have in a documentary and more specifically what I should include from my school. There are so many good things about my school and I need to find a way to make the video into a descent size. This is why I'm asking everyone to comment and share their ideas with me.

Anyone that has a clue on making documentaries and for those that know about my school, please give me ideas so that I can take them into consideration.

  1. Making a documentary of our school would be very convenient and useful for us, for many people don't know much about Chinquapin. You should incorporate at one point the process of choosing the students that come and have the privilege to come to Chinquapin. Informing people about our school is a way of publicizing it and showing off the great reputation that our school has. Many people think that because it's a private school that we have enough money to pay all the expenses only from the student's tuition, and this is certainly not true. Incorporate why Chinquapin is so unique, what differentiates us from other private schools, the public schools that surround us. Good luck.

  2. I think it’s a good idea to make a documentary about Chinquapin. It’s a very unique idea. We were asked to use our passion to incorporate unique ideas to show to the school and it gives me a sense that Chinquapin is your passion. I honestly think you should talk to people you have been here from the start, because Chinquapin is all they know. An idea that I have is to show how Chinquapin has helped change and form many different lives and I am a living testimony to that as well as our classmates. If it’s possible, I think you should have the students to take a survey and based on the responses talk to certain people and just start from there. Good Luck!!!

  3. I think a documentary is much needed. The last one I remember being filmed was when I was in 6th grade. There have been significant changes that have happened in past 6 years that I think should be addressed. For example, the change in directors is something that has effected the school (not in a negative way). Another thing that I think should be a focus in your documentary is student-teacher relationship. Where else but Chinquapin can you call your teacher by his first name? You should speak with Mr. Duncan since he taught Video Production. Also, I have an HD camcorder you can use. Let me know if you're interested.

  4. I think this is a really cool idea that you have, and it looks like it will take you sometime. I think you should create an outline with all the things that you think are important and unique about the school. For example you can use obvious things such as creativity week or more deep things such as the close relation between teacher and students. It's up to you to decide to what level you decide to take it. The actually making of the video sounds hard, but I happen to know a good teacher who creates videos for my old school. I bet he can give you or me if you want me to ask him for advice. I think you seen some of his videos and they are extremely good. I think that all you need right now is pick the main aspects and points you are going to be showing in your video. You also have a big advantage since you been in Chinquapin for so long you know the school quite well. This can help you with a documentary in which you state certain traditions of the school.

  5. A documentary from a students point of view sounds like a great idea. I suggest that you find a student at Chinquapin who you know is involved in many aspects of the school. That student should be the centerpiece in disecting the school's daily functions. You can have it where you follow his daily routine, go off to present a topic of the school in more detail and then return to following your subject. Also my mentor Ford Gunter and his associate Carlton Ahrens are into film and their Art Car documentary premiers on November. If you want professional tips I can get you in contact with them.
